8. Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The editorial team of Scripta Manent adhers to principles of transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics, the Directory of Open Access Journals, the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, and the World Association of Medical Editors. Their guidelines for editors are available at http://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors.pdf.

Authors are thus expected to be aware of, and comply with, best practice in publication ethics especially with regard to authorship (they should avoid ghost authorship, dual submission, plagiarism, manipulation of figures, competing interests and compliance with policies on research ethics.

Reviewers and editors are required to treat manuscripts fairly and in confidence, and to declare any competing interests.
The editorial team thus strives to ensure that research published in Scripta Manent is as free from bias as possible. As transparency of competing interests allows readers to better evaluate the possibility of bias and editors must take all competing interests into account during the review process as well as ensure that any relevant ones are declared in the published article, Scripta Manent has the following requirements: In cases of suspected misconduct, the COPE flowcharts will be followed.

Any concerns about publication malpractice should be addressed to the Editor.

II. Peer-Review Process

Step 1: Each submission is first screened by the editors to determine their appropriateness to proceed to a full peer review. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s scope, evidence possible duplication of content, or do not meet other requirements of the journal will be declined without a peer review.

Step 2: All submissions that meet the requirements for publication are assigned to an associate editor and sent out for double blind review. The decision to accept or reject the article is based on the reviews and made by the editors.

If the article is sent back to the author for revision and subsequent resubmission, the associate editor will forward the reviews to the author and provide further comments if necessary about what areas of the article need revision. The revised and resubmitted article will be sent back to the reviewers for re-assessment. Based on the reviewers’ comments, the editors make the final decision.
