Designing an A1 level textbook for teaching Italian for specific purposes – the concept,
content and approach (vocational college Catering and tourism programme)
In this article we present the study materials entitled Professional Terminology
in the Italian Language prepared by Maja Maričić, which are intended to be used when
teaching Italian to students of catering and tourism. They have been designed for
students of vocational college who do not have any previous knowledge of Italian
or professional terminology in this language. Professional Terminology in the Italian
Language is a textbook and a workbook based on the communicative approach. Grammar
is introduced in context. Intercultural topics are added to units so as to enable
employees to better understand the needs of Italian guests in Slovenia. Texts, dialogues
and vocabulary items covering specific themes in tourism are included in the materials.
